The vigilance of the Żagań military police meant that the conclusion of an evening motorized patrol carried out on January 23, 2020, was the removal from road traffic of an intoxicated driver who posed a real threat to other road users.
The soldiers of the Military Police were alerted by the way a driver leaving a wooded area entered Łąkowa Street in Świętoszów.
During the inspection, the patrol commander detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from the man. “I ordered him to stop the vehicle immediately and get out,” said the Military Police non-commissioned officer. The inspected driver's reaction was surprising. Instead of following the instructions, the man left the inspection site with screeching tires. “I had to jump aside to avoid being hit,” said the patrol commander, who immediately decided to begin a pursuit.
After a while, the fleeing driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned onto its side. The road incident looked serious, so the military police quickly pulled the man from the car. After establishing that he did not need medical assistance, the Military Police soldiers, as a preventive measure, used direct coercive measures in the form of handcuffs. The patrol commander informed the duty officer at the Military Police Branch in Żagań and the duty officer at the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters about the entire incident.
The driver turned out to be an employee of one of the military units in Świętoszów. He had previously been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. The passenger car he was driving was unregistered and uninsured, had no valid technical inspection, and its registration plates belonged to another vehicle.

The military police provided the officers from the Traffic Department of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters who arrived at the scene with the necessary information. The police then tested the man's breath alcohol content. He had 0.76 mg/l, which was confirmed by a second test.
