Statement by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman regarding the Zgorzelec radiotherapy department, which has been non-operational for 1.5 years
I have known the public healthcare system in Zgorzelec for many years and rate it highly. I know that residents of Bolesławiec, which borders Zgorzelec, also use its services in some fields. This applies, among others, to oncology patients from my city.
The Wielospecjalistyczny Szpital SP ZOZ in Zgorzelec has considerable potential in oncology treatment, including highly professional equipment. The essential (!) final element is an exceptionally modern radiotherapy department, which was opened in Zgorzelec 1.5 years ago and, despite this, is still not operating.
I myself also took part in efforts to launch this department, bearing in mind the welfare of Bolesławiec residents and others from our region. I declare that I firmly and wholeheartedly support actions aimed at securing a contract with the National Health Fund, because only this will make modern and effective treatment possible. I know that, thanks to this, thousands of residents of our region will, here and now, have a chance to recover from fatal cancers. This will mean an end to their suffering and, subsequently, a return to their families and society.
Residents of Zgorzelec, Bolesławiec and others from our region deserve good healthcare here, in our own area (!), on an equal footing with residents of Warsaw, Wrocław and other metropolitan areas.
Mayor of Bolesławiec – Piotr Roman
