Our Reader asked us to publicize the matter, pointing out that drivers at the intersection of Kubika, Piaskowa and Garncarska Streets do not know who has the right of way. In an email to the editorial office, he wrote: “There is total chaos there. Drivers travelling along Kubika Street towards Garncarska, seeing the sign give way 50 m ahead, believe that they have priority over those travelling along Piaskowa. Others, applying the right-hand rule, give way. In addition, apparently to cause confusion, a solid line has been painted before the Kubika–Piaskowa intersection, which would indicate that drivers should give way”. He added: “The same applies to those travelling along Piaskowa Street who, seeing the sign give way, believe that it applies to Garncarska, not Kubika, and force priority over those travelling along Kubika Street”.
The Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei is responsible for the intersection’s signage. We waited 25 days for the officials’ response. Lilia Schmar, head of the Road Traffic Engineering Department, Lilia Schmar wrote in an email to our editorial office: “Kubika Street has priority over Piaskowa Street. However, it is subordinate to Łokietka and Garncarska Streets. This is indicated by the give way sign with the 50 m supplementary plate. […] We believe that this signage is clear and correct”.
However, after an on-site inspection, employees of the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei concluded that the road markings at the intersection could mislead drivers: a mandatory stop line. “This line will be removed by DSDiK’s Maintenance and Repair Service,” the head of the department added.
