During the ceremony, first-year students were admitted into the mining community by jumping over the leather, a mining initiation ritual. The young people prepared an artistic programme filled with mining songs and sketches.
For seven years, the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec has been educating future miners. It currently offers a technical secondary-school programme in underground extraction of deposits other than hard coal. This is a profession for which there was demand from KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. — to better adapt the education programme to the requirements of modern mineral extraction, in this case copper ores.
The school actively cooperates with KGHM and Nowy Ląd S.A. Students complete practical training there, while specialists from both mining companies conduct classes.
