On Wednesday, 8 July, Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Wiesław Ogrodnik signed an agreement to carry out renovations on the county road on Komuny Paryskiej Street. The investment will be carried out by a company from Jelenia Góra.

The work will include renovating the road surface and the pavement on the left-hand side (when coming from Kutuzowa Street). The old surface will be removed and replaced with an asphalt surface. Speed bumps will be installed on the road. During the renovation, manholes and water and gas supply valves will be adjusted.

The investment will cost nearly PLN 500,000. The funds will come from the city budget. The work is scheduled to be completed by 8 November 2009.

When this information appeared online, some people may have got the impression that City Hall was doing something on behalf of the county authorities. “Presenting the matter in this way is not particularly elegant. As part of an ISPA investment, the city laid a sewer system on Komuny Paryskiej Street. The general rule is that if an investor damages a road, it must restore it to the condition it was in before the investment began,” says Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Bolesławiec County Board. “If it were not for ISPA, this road would have remained untouched. The city is obliged to renovate this street.”

Bogusław Nowak, a City Council member, shares this view: “As part of the ISPA programme, one of the most beautiful streets in the city was destroyed. The historic cobblestones were removed. In my opinion, ISPA should restore the entire length of Komuny Paryskiej Street.”

When the PO councillor heard from us that the city intended to spend just under PLN 500,000 on renovating the street, he reacted sharply: “A true steward would rather do nothing than do a poor job. I do not agree to makeshift pothole repairs.”
