The examinations, conducted by specialists employed by SP ZOZ, will cover students in grades III–IV—children at the age when they grow fastest. “We want as many children as possible to benefit from the examinations,” says Kamil Barczyk, director of the Bolesławiec County Hospital. “The program is funded by SP ZOZ. This is our way of thanking all the local governments in the county that provide financial support to the hospital.
The children’s height and weight are recorded, and they are examined for possible defects of the spine, shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle, knees and feet. If any abnormalities are found, parents will receive recommendations and referrals to specialists responsible for correcting and treating posture defects.
Kamil Barczyk expects the program to last the entire year, with children from subsequent birth years invited for examinations in the years ahead. The director wants to create a team of specialists—including physiotherapists, dietitians and diabetologists—who will conduct screening examinations aimed at reducing excess weight and detecting acquired diabetes at an early stage, most often a consequence of improper eating habits.
The examinations conducted in school nurses’ offices are voluntary and free of charge. The hospital director appeals to parents to complete the declarations available at schools and register their children.
