Posters featuring blue boats and rainbow sails will promote the 28th Final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity on January 12, 2020.
– Choosing the theme of the Final is always something we consider carefully and discuss with a broad group, consulting distinguished medical specialists – says Jurek Owsiak, President of the Management Board of the WOŚP Foundation. – The theme we have chosen for the 28th Final concerns an extremely important, though somewhat overlooked, area of the Polish healthcare system. We see this in the dozens of requests for support that we receive from hospitals throughout Poland. We hope that Poles will trust us once again and that together we will raise funds enabling us to improve the functioning of another area of Polish medicine – adds Jurek Owsiak.
The Foundation will raise funds to purchase the most modern equipment for saving the lives and health of children requiring various types of surgery. Surgeons of all specialties save these children’s lives day and night throughout Poland. The Orchestra will focus primarily on such areas of pediatric medicine as general surgery, cardiac surgery and neurosurgery.
For operations to be effective and safe, with as few complications as possible, and for both early and long-term outcomes to match the best in the world, the most modern and very expensive medical equipment is needed. Such equipment is essential for operating rooms, postoperative intensive care units and diagnostic imaging departments.
This includes operating lights, operating tables, diathermy machines, anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment, teletransmission devices, C-arm X-ray machines and endoscopic sets.
The Final will also include the purchase of equipment for postoperative intensive care units. Planned purchases include incubators, monitors, ventilators, as well as automatic syringe and volumetric pumps. In addition, ultrasound machines and echocardiographs will be needed for both operating rooms and postoperative units.
Last year, the Bolesławiec headquarters raised PLN 127,813.38! It was the record amount collected in our town. Michał Szwed, head of the Bolesławiec WOŚP, promised that if more than PLN 100,000 were raised in Bolesławiec during the Final, he would walk home barefoot. The amount collected exceeded that threshold and... the WOŚP head kept his word.
