I would like to raise the subject of the Bolesławiec pond, or rather the “soup” shaped like a pond... There is definitely too little water, and its consistency and contents (plastic bags, bottles...) are also not conducive to the animals living there.
She added:
A place with such potential is simply neglected, which is a great shame... Moreover, beside the new willow in the middle of the pond, there is no duck house, which used to be there. The ducks have neither their own refuge nor shelter—especially now that winter is approaching.
Kazimierz Łomotowski, director of the Municipal Housing Management Facility:
I inform you that the cleanliness of the municipal pond is monitored on an ongoing basis, and cleaning is carried out systematically as needed. The pond’s water level depends on incoming water, which is regulated by the water level of the “Leśny Potok” retention reservoir.
He added:
Following consultations with the Klekusiowo Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center, I do not anticipate installing a duck house, because wild birds are excellently adapted to the conditions prevailing in Poland and withstand severe winters and hot summers very well.
Ducks are migratory birds, although not all of them fly away for the winter. A necessary condition for their refuge is water overgrown with reeds. According to the specialist’s opinion, building duck houses is therefore not necessary.
For example, around 100 ducks stay at Klekusiowo during the winter, and they never use the existing duck house.
