National Police Headquarters:

Although the primary objective of the operation is to remove from the roads vehicles whose technical condition indicates improper engine operation or damage to the exhaust system, police officers will pay attention to any conduct that violates the law.

During the operation, selected Police patrols will use control and measuring instruments to determine whether environmental protection requirements have been violated.

Officers remind us:

A police officer—while overseeing the safety and order of road traffic—is authorized, among other things, to check the technical condition of a vehicle on the road. If it is found or reasonably suspected that a vehicle violates environmental protection requirements, the police officer is required to seize the vehicle registration certificate.

They add:

The operation also has an informational and educational purpose. Let us remember that transport, particularly in large cities, contributes to deteriorating air quality.

Police officers will remind drivers that the smog making itself felt is also “thanks” to technically defective vehicles emitting excessively toxic exhaust fumes.
