Lidia Kostanek is a Polish artist who settled in France after completing her master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She worked in graphic design and illustration. After arriving in Nantes, France, she began working in a ceramic sculpture studio in 2013.
Her sculptures challenge and explore ideas of idealized femininity and seek to discover something new in relation to the body. They reject the division between fragility and strength, delicacy and violence, seduction and repulsion, pleasure and pain. Her surrealist works—disturbing and transgressive—are multilayered and complex.
Her work, along with those of other participants in the 54th and 55th editions of the International Ceramic-and-Sculpture Symposium, could be viewed at the “Before and After” exhibition in the foyer of Bolesławiec Town Hall during the 25th Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival.
