On August 21, we reported that the railway station in Bolesławiec would be renovated. We have more information on the subject.
We give the floor to Michałowi Stilgerowi, spokesperson for PKP S.A.:
The redevelopment of Bolesławiec railway station will include the modernization of the station building and development of the area in its immediate surroundings. The building’s structure will not change because it is a historic property. Only the non-historic extensions added at a later date will be demolished.
What will change?
M. Stilger: “The functional layout of the interiors will change. In addition to facilities related to serving passengers—ticket offices, a waiting room and restrooms—there will be rooms intended for lease. During the redevelopment, the building’s façade will be renovated. The window and door joinery will be replaced. The redevelopment will also cover all rooms inside the building, as well as the replacement of ceilings, reinforcement of the roof structure with replacement of the roof covering, and replacement of downspouts and gutters. The historic ceiling in the waiting room, as well as the barrel vault in the room for parents with children, will be renovated.
Will there be surveillance?
The building will be adapted to modern fire-safety standards, the spokesperson emphasizes. “The station will also become safer thanks to the installation of modern surveillance, access-control, and burglar- and hold-up-alarm systems.”
What about accessibility for people with disabilities?
A representative of the railway company reassures us: “The property will be adapted to serve people with limited mobility by creating guide paths, eliminating architectural barriers, and adapting restrooms to the needs of people with disabilities.”
Will it become more modern?
Michał Stilger:
Modern voice and visual information systems will also be installed. In line with the latest standards, the building will be equipped with a BMS (Building Management System).
Good news for cycling fans
The building’s surroundings will also change, M. Stilger emphasizes. The former restroom building will be renovated and converted into a bicycle shelter. An additional bicycle parking area will also be located nearby.
When will the project be completed?
“We plan for the stations to be made available to passengers after the redevelopment in the second quarter of 2021,” the spokesperson reports.
