This year’s Pierogi Festival was held on Sunday, June 7, in Dąbrowa Bolesławiecka. As in previous years, there was no shortage of fans of these flour-based delicacies. It might be said that pierogi are the favorite dish of Bolesławiec County. Regular attendees have already learned that, to taste the very best ones, it is not worth waiting until the last moment to arrive.
Fortunately, the weather was good. Large numbers of county residents gathered at the sports field in Dąbrowa. Soloists and bands performed on stage. The performances included those by students of the local primary school, Natalia Żebrowska, the Żeliszów band, Agnieszka Miszkiewicz, the vocal group from MDK in Bolesławiec, and Dawid Rajfur.
In the annual competition for the tastiest ruskie pierogi, the women from Łaziska took first place. The women from Żeliszów came second, while the women from Nowa Wieś took third place.
How do you prepare the most delicious pierogi? “Simplicity is the most important thing,” explains Kamila Rygiel, chairwoman of the Łaziska Rural Housewives’ Circle. “Our grandmothers’ tried-and-tested recipes are the best recipes.”
Additional attractions at the festival included a pierogi quiz, a pierogi-eating contest, and a pierogi-making contest. The latter was won by Mr. Roman from Krępnica.
There was also no shortage of sporting excitement. Festival participants took part in a pierogi race, with each competitor wearing a costume resembling a pieróg.
The festival concluded with a dance party. Portal IstotneInformacje.pl was the event’s exclusive online media patron.
