We have received the investor’s official statement. Jacek Wesołowski, Managing Director of Trei Real Estate Poland:

Every process concerning the purchase of a plot on which we would like to carry out our investment involves multiple stages, including an examination of any irregularities associated with the land in question. This time was no different. What is more, the notarial deed we signed included a statement by the seller indicating that he had no knowledge of any potential proceedings concerning the plot on Staroszkolna Street in Bolesławiec.

In addition, the deed contained no mention that the land was subject to historical or conservation protection due to the fact that any structure or site of historical importance might previously have been located there.

We worked on the transaction for two years, and during that time we learned that a scouts’ monument dedicated to the memory of prisoners of the Gross Rosen labor camp had previously stood in Bolesławiec. We planned, in cooperation with the local authorities, historians and local activists, to fund and arrange a suitably prominent monument together with a memorial site.

The director adds:

Trei’s investments are carried out with respect for the traditions and history of each location. An example is the Vendo Park currently being built in Pułtusk, where we are converting a former PKS bus station building for retail use. During the works, it turned out that elements of the façade held sentimental value for local residents, so we decided to preserve and restore the historic mosaic and clock from the former station.

In Chodzież, meanwhile, while building a retail facility, we restored the remaining walls of the Grudziński castle and incorporated them into the design of the retail park. In Kutno, on the other hand, we are the founders of a monument to the city’s founder.

And he emphasizes:

This time as well, as the investor, we are ready to take appropriate steps to commemorate the history of Bolesławiec.

This statement is, among other things, a response to a post by the creator of the Facebook profile Bolesławiec i okolice dawniej i dziś, who criticized the planned location of Vendo Park:

[…] the new shopping center will rise on human blood. Several years ago, a monument to victims of the KL Gross-Rosen subcamp was removed [informowaliśmy o tym na naszych łamach wielokrotnie – przyp. istotne.pl], one of the best-known German concentration camps that was located precisely on this site. The monument was supposedly removed for renovation, but it has now been gone for five years, and a shopping center is now planned to be built there.

Let us recall. On Monday, we reported that Trei Real Estate GmbH (Trei) had expanded its land portfolio by acquiring a plot in Bolesławiec (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The developer purchased nearly 70,000 sq m of land, where it plans to build a retail complex.

The retail park, located on Staroszkolna Street in Bolesławiec (between AMMA and the city bypass), will be the largest Vendo Park built by Trei in Poland to date. The facility will provide more than 9,000 sq m of modern retail and service space.

The developer has already begun design work and plans to start construction in 2020. On the purchased plot, Trei will also build a facility that will house a well-known DIY chain; it will be the first store of this size of its kind in the city. (The visualization suggests that it may be Castorama). A grocery discount store will also be built next to the retail park. (Perhaps Biedronka.)

Investor:

Vendo Parks are single-story shopping centers equipped with large, convenient parking lots. In Bolesławiec, the investor plans to create more than 700 parking spaces. Trei focuses on maximum convenience for tenants and Vendo Park customers, so to ensure quick access to the retail park in Bolesławiec, the developer will build a roundabout along national road No. 94 (the city bypass).

The visualizations also suggest that a McDonald’s will probably be built there.

Trei Real Estate is not only the investor but also the manager of the Vendo Park network. The developer, which is part of the German Tengelmann Group, currently has 20 retail parks in its European portfolio.

In Poland, the first Vendo Park opened in 2013 in Nysa. Since then, the company has consistently pursued its development strategy, particularly in smaller towns. Today, Trei shopping centers are located in Chełm, Milanówek, Mińsk Mazowiecki, Skierniewice, Łódź, Świdnica, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Chodzież and Bytów.
