The competitors raced over three distances:

  • 18
  • 36
  • 108 kilometers.

It should be added that this was an amateur race, with participants coming from all over Poland and from abroad as well.

The county authorities decided to assume patronage of the event. The competition also determined the Bolesławiec County road-cycling champions. On the 108-kilometer course, first place went to Krzysztof Leszczyński, second place to Kryspin Adamczyk, and third place to Arkadiusz Bednarski.

The race was the idea of Bartosz Kasprzyk, president of the Road-Racing.pl association from Bolesławiec, who worked to have the tour included in the series of road races held under the Via Dolny Śląsk banner.

It started very modestly. Three years ago, 40 people took to the course; last year, 110 did so; and last Sunday saw a record turnout!

Gromadka was chosen for good reason. As the organizers—and above all, the competitors—emphasize, the excellent asphalt roads make this the best amateur road race in Poland.

Competitors with impressive sporting achievements appeared at the start in Gromadka: Henryk Charucki, a world champion in track racing; Jan Faltyn, a silver medalist at the World Track Championships in San Cristobal; and champion Bartosz Huzarski.

Via Dolny Śląsk is the country's largest road-racing series. Last year, nearly 6,000 cyclists took part. Eleven races have been planned for this year. The event in Gromadka was the fourth. The final one will be held on October 13 in Sobótka. The overall series winners can look forward to valuable prizes and the admiration of the cycling community. The prize pool exceeds PLN 100,000.
