At the end of May Zbigniew Mandziejewicz, a well-known footballer and coach, will ceremonially end his sporting career. “Bolesławiec, my city: Zbigniew Mandziejewicz and Friends’ Football Show” will take place during this year’s city days. The former BKS Bolesławiec player decided to end his career here, where he began it—in Bolesławiec.

On this occasion, we invite you to take part in a competition. Two unique Legia Warsaw pennants are up for grabs. The larger one was made in connection with the Legia Daewoo Warszawa and Udinese Calcio match in the UEFA Cup in 1999. It is a limited edition. Approximately one hundred such pennants were made. They went mainly to well-known people from the world of football. This pennant belonged to the current Lech Poznań coach, Franciszek Smuda. The smaller pennant commemorates the dates of Legia Warszawa’s greatest football achievements, from 1955 through 1997. It is worth recalling that Legia reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 1996. Both pennants are very carefully made. Both feature the Legia Daewoo Warszawa club emblem and the Polish national colours. The larger one has an eagle wearing a crown on the reverse. Both pennants were donated free of charge by Wojtek Zimerman, a well-known footballer (formerly of, among others, BKS Bolesławiec), coach and sports manager.

To take part in the competition, you must correctly answer three questions related to Zbigniew Mandziejewicz’s football career. Here are the questions:

  1. In what year was Zbigniew Mandziejewicz born?
  2. At which club did Zbigniew Mandziejewicz begin his football career?
  3. In which years did Zbigniew Mandziejewicz play for the Polish national football team?

Answers should be sent using the contact form. The prizes will go to the first two people to answer the questions correctly. The competition is intended for Bolesławiec residents. When sending your answers, you must provide your telephone number for contact. Otherwise, the answer will not be considered.

Zbigniew Mandziejewicz is not the only well-known footballer to end his career in Bolesławiec. Several years ago, Górnik Zabrze player and multiple-time Poland international Ryszard Komornicki said farewell to his football career in our city. Komornicki is currently the coach of Swiss FC Aarau. He also has a strong chance of becoming the first Polish coach in the Bundesliga. Perhaps BKS Bolesławiec graduate Zbigniew Mandziejewicz will follow in his footsteps.
