Officers from the Kowary Police Station and police officers from the Department for Combating Economic Crime of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 62-year-old man suspected of possessing tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings.

The Czech national was caught on 9 April in Kowary. Officers stopped a Dodge vehicle with Czech registration plates for a road check. In the vehicle’s trunk, officers found bags containing nearly 16 kg of illegal tobacco. (The State Treasury’s preliminary losses were estimated at almost PLN 18,000.)

Police are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail, including where the seized goods came from and whom they were intended for.

The 62-year-old will face trial for his actions.
