Several dozen competitors started on a very demanding course (in the younger junior category): a distance of 10,400 m in a straight line, 420 m of elevation gain and 28 checkpoints.
The competition continued right to the very end. The leading group formed fairly quickly, and it was clear that the medals would be contested by four competitors. Among them was also Stanisław Pachnik from Lubków.
In the closing stages of the race, which lasted nearly 80 minutes, tactical skill, great endurance and tremendous motivation were essential. Stanisław attacked several hundred metres before the finish and reached the final checkpoint first. The finish was then merely a formality, and he could celebrate his victory.
Coach Dariusz Pachnik:
This is Stas's first gold medal at the Polish Championships! Last year, in the same category, he finished on the lowest step of the podium. He is now beginning preparations for his next competitions.
There will be another opportunity to compete for titles as early as mid-May, over the middle distance and in the night race.
