On Saturday, May 2, the aerial battle for the world championship in the Red Bull Paper Wings competition came to an end in Salzburg, Austria. More than 250 students from 83 countries took part in the championships. Competitors faced off in three categories: distance flight, flight duration and aerobatics.
Poland was represented by: Maciej Mazur and Tomasz Chodyra from Bolesławiec, as well as Witold Bądkowski from Gdańsk. All three made their presence felt at the international final.
Tomasz Chodyra performed particularly well in the aerobatic flight category. Thanks to the participants’ creativity, the competition turned into a kind of show. The competitors incorporated elements of dance, acrobatics and music into their performances. The competitor from Bolesławiec was the only one to use pyrotechnic effects.
Tomasz finished second in the final. Takeshige Kishlura Kisshii from Japan won. Maciej Mazur, who competed in the distance flight category, also reached the very top of the standings. The competitor from Bolesławiec finished fourth with a result of 39.76 m. The winner was Croatia’s Jovica Kozlica, the 2006 world champion. Meanwhile, Witold Bądkowski from Gdańsk took ninth place in the flight duration category. The winner was Brazil’s Leonard Ang.
In the team standings, the Polish team took first place. As a reward, our competitors went tandem skydiving.
