The Red Bull Paper Wings World Championship qualifiers were held in university cities. Maciej Mazur performed excellently in the Wrocław qualifiers Maciej Mazur (pictured above). The resident of Bolesławiec competed in the distance category. His aircraft achieved the longest distance—36.7 m. Maciej took first place, defeating competitors from Poznań, Gliwice and Łódź, among others.
Tomasz Chodyra competed in aerobatics. This category takes into account the aircraft's design, the spectacle of the flight and creativity. In the Wrocław qualifiers, the resident of Bolesławiec scored 30 points. He was therefore among the five competitors who achieved the same score. A tiebreaker held in Gdańsk on Thursday decided who would compete at the World Championships. Tomasz Chodyra won the tiebreaker and, together with Maciej Mazur, will compete at the World Championships, which will be held in early May in Salzburg, Austria.
Red Bull Paper Wings is contested in three disciplines: distance flight, time flight and aerobatics. Competitors build an aircraft out of paper. In the time-flight and distance-flight disciplines, the aircraft must be made from a single sheet of paper.
