Wrocław Voivodeship Police Headquarters:

Since the amended regulations came into force, it has become apparent that many drivers have adapted to them by changing their driving style. Unfortunately, as it turns out, not everyone has done so. Police officers continue to identify those who blatantly disregard the rules on speed limits in built-up areas and the principles of safe road use.

In just the first two months of 2019, Lower Silesian police officers had already stopped 499 drivers who exceeded the speed limit in a built-up area by more than 50 km/h. In accordance with the applicable regulations, all of them had their driving licences confiscated.

It is worth adding that since the beginning of the year, Bolesławiec police officers have confiscated the driving licences of nine reckless drivers.

Officers:

Let us recall that the Act on Drivers contains new grounds for the administrative confiscation of a driving licence. One such ground is a gross violation of the speed limit in a built-up area—exceeding it by more than 50 km/h. In practice, the detection of such an offence results in the driving licence being confiscated during the roadside inspection and sent to the competent starosta, who formally confiscates the document by issuing an administrative decision. The first confiscation lasts three months.

They add:

If a driver is found driving a vehicle again during the aforementioned three-month period, it is extended to six months. The next stage is the withdrawal of the entitlement to drive vehicles; reinstatement requires meeting all the requirements imposed on a person applying for driving entitlement for the first time.
