The City Days celebrations will begin on Thursday, May 28. At 4:00 p.m., the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre will host a promotional meeting for the first edition of the “Bolesławiec Yearbook.” As part of the 9th South Slavic Culture Festival, two films will be shown at Forum Cinema: “The Book of Records of Šutka” (at 5:00 p.m.) and “Gucha! The Trumpet Duel” (at 7:30 p.m.), while the Długa Gallery will present the exhibition “Sculpture by Joto Giotto Dimitrov.” The opening will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, May 29

At 1:00 p.m., the “Rainbow Preschoolers’ Rally” will take place in the market square. The “Bolesławiec, My City” competition will be decided in the foyer of Forum Cinema, and at 6:00 p.m. the Format Gallery (Municipal Public Library) will open Janusz Moniatowicz’s photography exhibition “Stories of Nieborów – Impressions.” There will be plenty happening at Rev. Jerzy Popiełuszko Square. The following performers will appear on stage (from 5:00 p.m.):

  • Municipal Wind Orchestra
  • Rafał Kubik
  • students of the State Music School in Bolesławiec
  • 59-700 Quintet
  • Big Band PSM I and II level in Bolesławiec

At 8:30 p.m., a concert by Janusz Radek “This Strange World – A Niemen Story” will take place at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Castle Square). The artist will perform with a 30-member orchestra conducted by Tomasz Filipczak.

Saturday, May 30

This year’s South Slavic Culture Festival will begin with the Bolesławiec 2009 South Slavic Feast, held at Popiełuszko Square (starting at 9:00 a.m.). A festival concert will take place at 6:00 p.m. The evening’s headliners will be Karpati and Trio Balkan Strings.

There will also be sporting attractions. The following events will take place at the MOSiR Water and Sports Centre:

  • at 10:00 a.m. Summer Spartakiad of Community Day Centres
  • at 2:00 p.m. “Saturday with Prevention – Prevention Without Borders” – a community festival for Bolesławiec residents
  • at 3:00 p.m. “The City for Children” – a family festival celebrating Children’s Day.

Meanwhile, at 11:00 a.m., the “Bolesławiec as My City, or the Football Show – Zbigniew Mandziejewicz and Friends” will begin at Municipal School Complex No. 2.

Sunday, May 31

Sunday’s celebrations will begin with a programme for children—games and activities with jugglers, stilt walkers and clowns (starting at 2:00 p.m. at Popiełuszko Square). The day will also feature a display of historical dances by the Syrokomla knightly troop, a performance by students of the Yamaha Music School, an artistic programme by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre and the Youth Cultural Centre in Bolesławiec, concerts by Method Massiv (reggae, dancehall, dub and hip-hop) and The Postman, performing Beatles songs. The evening’s headliner will be Tercet Egzotyczny.

At 10:00 a.m., the Football Show by Zbigniew Mandziejewicz and Friends will take place at the MOSiR Water and Sports Centre, while at 7:00 p.m. the band Karpati will perform in Bolesławice. More information can be found on the BOK website.

Attention! Traffic arrangements changing in the city centre

From May 29 (from 6:00 a.m.) to May 31 (until 10:00 p.m.), the following streets will be closed:

  • Karola Miarki Street—the section alongside the City Hall, from the intersection with Asnyka Street to the intersection with Łukasiewicza Street (only emergency vehicles and MZK buses will be allowed to enter)
  • Asnyka Street—traffic will use only one lane!
