On February 21, the officer on duty at the Bolesławiec Municipal Police received a report that smoke was coming from a ventilation duct in one of the apartments on Sadowa Street.
A patrol was dispatched immediately. Because of the suffocating smell, after entering the stairwell, the officers immediately opened all the windows and doors. Smoke was coming from ventilation grilles in several apartments.
It turned out that the source of the smoke was the stove in one of the residents’ apartments. The municipal police officers:
Because of the serious risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, the fire service was called to the scene. After checking the carbon monoxide concentration, which exceeded the permissible level several times, the firefighters ordered the evacuation of the residents and called an emergency medical team, which provided first aid to several people.
The resident was prohibited from burning in the stove until the chimney flues had been inspected by a chimney sweep. In addition, the officers set a date for a repeat combustion inspection at the location.
