The idea for the project was born in the Italian city of Faenza, which in 2018 celebrated the 50th anniversary of receiving the Europe Prize, awarded to the city in 1968 by the Council of Europe for activities promoting the values of the European community.

Bolesławiec established cooperation with the city of Faenza—one of Europe’s most important ceramic centres—in 2009. Young people from I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec are actively involved in carrying out the project. The project aims to:

  • raise citizens’ and young people’s awareness of European values
  • promote a better understanding of EU institutions and policies, as well as the rights of Community citizens,
  • make Europe more understandable and closer to its citizens
  • highlight the role of youth associations and informal groups dealing with EU issues.

The first part of the project aims to understand how society has changed over the past 50 years, focusing on the values that led to the creation of the EU and on a debate about current and future challenges. To this end, students from I LO are currently conducting interviews with representatives of different age groups about their perceptions of the European Union.

A survey has also been prepared and can be completed online. We encourage you to complete the anonymous survey. It takes only a few minutes and will help achieve the project’s objectives. Survey link: https://surveyhero.com/c/ef71c19a.

The second part of the project focuses on the future, involving students from the project’s partner cities, including representatives of the Bolesławiec Youth City Council, who will take part in a simulation of a European Parliament session.

Throughout the project, particular attention is being paid to an issue of great importance from the perspective of EU citizens’ everyday lives: immigration and, consequently, cultural integration.

The project indirectly contributes to understanding the history and process that led to the creation of the EU. Citizens of all age groups will discuss their future, sharing their views on what the EU should look like and how it should function, as well as what changes they expect.
