Inspector Norbert Kurenda has been head of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters since January 4 this year. During his address at the January session of the Bolesławiec County Council, the chief said:
Last year, the number of general and criminal offenses committed in the county increased. This was partly due to changes in the regulations.
These are changes that now classify some offenses as crimes.
Importantly, the crime detection rate rose from 40 to 43 percent. Last year, police officers carried out 11,777 various interventions, 938 more than in 2017. They apprehended as many as 378 wanted persons, checked 20,000 people and arrested 162 drunk drivers.
A total of 980 people committed offenses. Their encounters with police ended in cautions and fines. Officers initiated 1,776 proceedings.
Unfortunately, compared with 2017, the number of road accidents increased by 12. There were 63 of them. Four people died on the roads. “These are great tragedies that could often have been avoided. That is why this year we will place even greater emphasis on improving road safety,” Inspector Kurenda declared.
What plans does the police have for this year?
This year, KPP Bolesławiec plans a great deal of preventive work concerning domestic violence and educating children and seniors. “Despite warnings, appeals and media campaigns, many elderly people still fall victim to fraudsters. Please, let us talk to our seniors and stay vigilant,” the chief appealed. “Thieves take truly enormous sums of money from them, and their life savings disappear.”
The head of the Bolesławiec police also intends to make community officers more active. They are to be visible and known to residents; people must trust these police officers.
What about the new headquarters?
“There is already a design for the construction of the new headquarters at the intersection of Cieszkowskiego and Modłowa streets. We may begin construction later this year,” Inspector Kurenda said.
