For many years, the building housed a primary school with integrated classes. The building had been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, but moving in children who all require special care—many have difficulty moving independently, and many require constant assistance—required the Bolesławiec County Board to decide on a comprehensive reconstruction that would meet all the needs of children with disabilities. Therefore, the original renovation and adaptation plan was significantly expanded to provide the children and educators with maximum comfort.

More classrooms have been planned, but they will be smaller because the classes are less numerous. Washbasins have been installed in almost every classroom. On every floor, there are toilets equipped with devices facilitating independent use by people with disabilities—separate facilities for girls, boys and children who are not self-reliant. The latter are equipped with changing benches and showers.

The building has a kitchen that will serve meals in the school cafeteria. This was very important to the parents.

Rehabilitation and educational rooms have been planned on every floor. The nurse will have her own office. There is a gymnasium, a computer lab, two common rooms, a “world exploration” room and life-skills workshops where children will learn, for example, how to prepare meals independently.

Two elevators will be installed inside the building. Replacing all the windows will make the school warmer, while an efficient ventilation system will ensure proper air circulation. The top floor will also be used for educational purposes. Air conditioners have been installed in the offices there. In front of the school building, a sports field with a safe surface, a playground and gym equipment are already ready.

The County Board decided to purchase the “initial equipment,” including new furniture and teaching aids.

After the renovation, the building will comply with strict fire-safety regulations.

The Bolesławiec County Council decided to allocate PLN 500,000 for the purchase of furniture and other equipment needed by the children for their education.

The construction and furnishing work is scheduled to be completed in the spring of this year.
