On Thursday, January 24, a Reader called us and, on behalf of the residents’ association of Asnyka Street, informed us that an illegal renovation was under way in a commercial unit. (He even used the term “total lawlessness.”)

The letter to the prosecutor’s office prepared by the residents states:

We observed large-scale demolition of walls and the continuous removal of rubble in a van with a tarpaulin cover. Probably so that the quantity and scale of the demolition would not be visible.

Seeing what was happening and fearing for their health and safety, the residents’ association reported the matter to the property manager and the Poviat Building Supervision Inspectorate, and also consulted a lawyer. The latter advised the residents of Bolesławiec to file a report with the prosecutor’s office.

The PINB inspection confirmed the suspicions of the Asnyka residents. “Yesterday, I issued a decision halting the ongoing construction work involving the alteration of the commercial unit. I ordered the investor to submit an inventory and a technical assessment of the completed construction work,” istotne.pl Piotr Żak, the poviat building supervision inspector, told the service.

He added:

If the construction work continues despite the halt, the matter will be referred to law enforcement authorities.

As the Reader informed us, despite the inspector’s decision, the workers started work this morning, before 7:00 a.m., as if nothing had happened. But then, before 10:00 a.m., they suddenly stopped.

The residents fear that the work may have damaged the building’s structure. “This is a mockery,” the Reader comments. “I have nothing against renovations, but do them in accordance with the law. Not like now, when every day I look to see whether my wall is cracking.”

We will return to this matter.
