Last week, we reported that in an email to the editorial office, a reader wrote:

I am asking you to address the issue of lighting at the pedestrian crossing and the bus stop on Kościuszki Street.

I drive along this street every day at 5 a.m., and it is very difficult to spot a pedestrian at the crossing, especially on a rainy day.

They added:

A lot of pedestrians use this route at these hours because they are going to work. I myself had to brake sharply because I saw a pedestrian too late.

I now slow down to approximately 10–20 km/h before the crossing.

We asked the Lower Silesian Road and Railway Service, the road administrator, for comment. It replied immediately:

Road lighting is the municipality’s responsibility. In this matter, please direct your question to Bolesławiec City Hall.

After this article was published, another reader wrote to us:

I have a request. Recently, you published an article about the total lack of lighting on Kościuszki Street. [...] Please address this issue again; there is new lighting with solar batteries, and it has been out of order for a long time. The pedestrian crossing is completely unlit. I ask whether a tragedy has to occur before decision-makers do something?????

Who is at fault?

As it turns out, the crossing is unlit because… thieves stole the power supplies—twice. The Municipality plans to install more traditional lighting there.

We will return to this topic.
