On Thursday, April 23, a press conference was held at the County Office with the participation of starosta Cezary Przybylski and Adam Zdaniuk, director of the county hospital. The meeting addressed, among other issues, the condition of the Bolesławiec ZOZ. The starosta stressed that saving the facility is one of the main tasks set by the PO-PSL-SLD coalition governing the county.
– Over the past 10 years, the county has provided SP ZOZ with PLN 10 million in funding – said Cezary Przybylski. The hospital is in good condition. The facility closed the previous year with a PLN 1.7 million surplus. – I would remind you that a hospital is not established to generate profit – emphasized Adam Zdaniuk. – All additional funds will be allocated to investments.
In February this year, we reported that the county hospital would receive almost PLN 1.4 million for computerization. The healthcare facility will receive the money from the Regional Operational Programme. Moreover, the first stage of thermal modernization will begin later this year. The entire investment will cost PLN 7 million, while its first stage will cost almost PLN 3 million. It is already known that the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will provide the facility with a grant and a loan. The hospital is also seeking EU funding.
The Emergency Department is scheduled to open in the summer of 2009. – This is our priority – Zdaniuk assures. – This year we plan to spend PLN 4 million on this purpose. We want to obtain funding from the European Union, but for now we have to take out a loan to ensure continuity of the investment.
– The claim that the Emergency Department will bring the hospital enormous profits is a myth – said the starosta. – It is a very costly department. Our main concern is the safety of the county’s residents.
