Pedestrians, as so-called vulnerable road users, are completely defenseless against speeding vehicles. An accident involving them can have extremely serious consequences, which is why Bolesławiec police officers remind pedestrians of their duties as road users.

What are a pedestrian's duties?

  • cross the roadway in designated places; if there are no such places, especially outside towns, exercise particular caution
  • never suddenly run onto the roadway. Stand at the edge of the pavement, at least 30 cm from its edge; look first to the left, then to the right, and once more to the left. When the roadway is clear, cross it—always straight across, using the shortest route
  • always cross the roadway when the light is green
  • when the green light is flashing, wait, because the red light will come on shortly
  • wear reflective elements, especially after dark, when visibility is poorer and dark clothing means that a pedestrian is noticed by a driver only at the last moment. (A pedestrian wearing a reflective element is visible to a vehicle driver from a much greater distance, allowing for an earlier reaction)
  • outside built-up areas, always walk on the left side of the road so that you can see vehicles approaching from the opposite direction.

The officers appeal to pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads.
