We have written many times in these pages about the campaign to save Polish cemeteries in the Eastern Borderlands, “Save the Grave of Your Great-Grandfather from Oblivion.” On October 30, representatives of schools participating in this initiative were invited to Warsaw for a meeting with the presidential couple.
Bolesławiec was represented by: Maksymilian Zachert, Grzegorz Panciszko, Weronika Rejman (students of the Maj. Henryk Sucharski Complex of General and Vocational Schools in Bolesławiec), Cyprian Boćko from the 1st General Secondary School, Tomasz Kryś from the 2nd General Secondary School, as well as Barbara Smoleńska, a teacher and coordinator of the aforementioned campaign on behalf of ZSOiZ.
The President of Poland thanked the volunteers for their efforts to preserve traces of Polish heritage in the Eastern Borderlands.
During the meeting, Grażyna Orłowska-Sondej, president of the Studio Wschód Foundation and the originator and coordinator of the “Save the Grave of Your Great-Grandfather from Oblivion” campaign, was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
More information is available on the website of Studio Wschód and the official website of President of Poland Andrzej Duda.
