Students from all first-year classes at ZSE learned the basics of programming through the educational game Code Monkey.
Second-year students of the ZSE information technology technical school took part in robotics and programming classes. The aim of the practical task was to create a program displaying scrolling text on the robot’s LED screen. Thanks to the school’s cooperation with Laboratorium Kreatywności, the classes were held in a practical format using mBot robots.
Third- and fourth-year students of the ZSE information technology technical school participated in online lectures. The third-year classes listened to a lecture entitled “Abracadabra, hocus pocus—in other words, the basics of programming,” while the fourth-year classes attended “How to Describe the World—in other words, the basics of object-oriented programming.” The lectures were organized as part of the IT Szkoła program, delivered by mgr. inż. Andrzej Ptasznik, and broadcast via Skype for Business.
In addition, fourth-year students of the ZSE information technology technical school took part in meetings with Albert Czarnecki, a programmer and lecturer at Laboratorium Kreatywności. During the classes, the students had the opportunity to learn about several JavaScript libraries, including express.js and react.js, which is used, among other places, on the Facebook portal.
CodeWeek Polska was part of European Code Week, which took place for the fifth time this year. Its aim was to popularize and promote learning programming among children, young people and adults. In previous years, more than 300 events promoting coding were held in Poland.
Programming skills are extremely important for the future of the labor market. According to the Grand Coallition for Digital Jobs, the workforce in the information and communications technology sector amounted to 6.67 million people in Europe in 2011, representing only 3.1% of those employed in Europe. The European Commission warns that by 2020 there will be a shortage of 900,000 specialists in this field.
The ZSE students greatly enjoyed all the activities carried out as part of the Code Week 2018 project. “Let us hope that thanks to such classes, some of them will join the ranks of programmers in the future!” say the teachers of “Elektronik”.
