Ms Ewelina, a resident of Gmina Bolesławiec, wrote to us on Facebook:

Mr Karol Stasik and Mr Tomasz Gabrysiak are currently managing Bolesławiec County. It is clear that the election campaign has consumed them so thoroughly, and that they are so focused on posed, retouched photographs, that anything can happen in the county.

Today [October 17—editor’s note] at around 11:30 a.m., the county road from Kraśnik Dolny to Dąbrowa was being patched. Below I present the result of this work.

Let me also remind you that the Bolesławiec Roads Authority is an organizational unit under the county’s administration.

She added:

Let me also remind you that you are not paying for such shoddy work out of your own pockets, gentlemen. You are spending public money—money that comes, among other sources, from the work of us, the residents of the county.

We do not agree to this kind of spending—or rather, wasting—of money. Or perhaps someone disagrees?

The resident of Gmina Bolesławiec also wrote to Deputy County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak, who replied via SMS as follows (the reader shared screenshots of the local official’s response on her Facebook page):

Ms Ewelina, the county road in Kraśnik Dolny requires a major reconstruction. This year, we are carrying out or have already carried out a dozen major road investments in Gmina Bolesławiec (for example, the road in Suszki) and in the county’s other municipalities (including the Świętoszów–Rudawica road, costing nearly PLN 25 million).

Unfortunately, Bolesławiec County is unable to thoroughly rebuild all county roads in a single year—quite simply because the budget lacks sufficient funds.

He added:

As for the quality of the work carried out, I have asked the head of the County Roads Authority for an explanation.

Since you mentioned the elections, I included the road in Kraśnik Dolny in the program of the Nonpartisan Local Government Officials’ Electoral Committee [...].

The Deputy Head of Bolesławiec County emphasized that he would also inform the County Head and try to clarify the matter:

I understand your outrage [...]. In such cases, please get in touch (before the elections, during the elections and after the elections).

Update: 2018-10-18 9:16

As the reader informed us, road workers have just arrived at the site. The Deputy County Head promised Ms Ewelina that the road would be repaired.

The resident commented: “It can be done? It can.”
