This is very important because most areas where hedgehogs could settle are usually already occupied. This means that in spring, hedgehogs previously taken from the wild and released back into freedom on supposedly ideal terrain for hedgehogs will be forced to wander in search of a new habitat. During their journeys, they will once again cross roads, which often means death beneath the wheels of passing cars.

To help hedgehogs, you can

  • organize shelters for them in the form of small piles of leaves or insulated wooden boxes left in the garden
  • give up using insecticides
  • give them special hedgehog or cat food (eggs, fried minced meat
  • under no circumstances give them milk; it causes life-threatening diarrhea in hedgehogs!
