The Sports Festival began with the Orlik Football Tournament for the Mayor of Nowogrodziec’s Cup, in which six teams competed, including four from Nowogrodziec municipality. The competition was officially opened by the event host, the mayor of Nowogrodziec, Robert Relich, together with special guest Radosław Majdan.

(R. Majdan is a graduate of Pogoń Szczecin’s youth academy and played for many top-flight clubs. He won the Polish championship twice with Wisła Kraków. He also played for clubs in Turkey, Greece and Israel. He represented Poland at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals).

Radosław Majdan’s visit brought great joy to the young players, with whom the former national-team goalkeeper eagerly spoke, handed out autographs and talked about his playing career.

The competition was professionally commentated on by another special guest at the Sports Festival, Dariusz Maląg, a presenter and commentator at many sporting events and competitions. For several years, he has been the announcer for one of Europe’s most prestigious cycling races, the Tour de Pologne. His professional and colorful commentary added a unique character to the entire event.

Łużyce Lubań won the Orlik tournament, finishing ahead of GAP GCKiS I Nowogrodziec and BKS Bolesławiec. The following places went to GAP GCKiS II Nowogrodziec, Piast Wykroty and GAP GCKiS III Nowogrodziec. The cups, certificates and prizes were presented by Mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich together with Radosław Majdan.

The Municipal Sports Festival offered many other interesting sporting attractions. From 10:00 a.m., the Jonasza Pakulskiego Cycling Academy, Jonasza Pakulskiego, a participant in the television program “Mam Talent,” prepared a cycling town where instructors taught children how to ride bicycles safely on the streets.

There was also a competition for preschoolers. A 300-meter Family Run was prepared for them, with children running together with their parents. After completing the distance, all the youngsters received commemorative medals and sweets on the podium, and Radosław Majdan himself presented the awards.

Intellectual enthusiasts also had a surprise in store. At 11:00 a.m., the Open Chess Tournament for the GCKiS Nowogrodziec Director’s Cup began. After seven rounds of competition, Barbara Kurkiewicz from Gościszów was the best female chess player, while Bartłomiej Róg from Chocianów was the best male chess player.

Another surprise prepared by the Jonasza Pakulskiego Cycling Academy was a Cycling Show at the skatepark by the Municipal Stadium. The rider showed the assembled audience many cycling tricks and acrobatic stunts, delighting everyone watching. It is worth emphasizing that the skatepark’s layout and arrangement of obstacles are perfectly suited to organizing this type of show.

The Municipal Sports Festival was held in Nowogrodziec for the first time—and without a doubt, not for the last! All participants emphasized that it was great fun and excellently organized.

Mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich warmly thanks everyone for taking part in the event and invites them to future editions of this exceptional event, where there will certainly be no shortage of surprises and attractions.
