Mr. and Mrs. Halina and Zbigniew have lived in the block on Jana Pawła II Street since June 2007. The previous owners of the apartment did not inform them that it was regularly flooded. Mrs. Halina is allergic. – Sneezing, red eyes, a runny nose. Taking medication all the time is no pleasure – the woman complains. The couple repainted the apartment. To prevent dampness, they turn the radiator up to maximum at night. They have also intervened with the building manager, the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative, several times. – So far, there has been no result – says Mr. Zbigniew.
Last summer, the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative sealed the building. – After some time, our apartment was flooded again – the man recounts. Damp stains appear on the walls after every heavy rain. – There must be a crack somewhere. I do not know whether the cooperative realizes that this could become a building disaster. This building could split open – emphasizes Mr. Zbigniew, who has a technical education.
Several families are in a similar situation. – In the chain of apartments being flooded, we are the last ones – Mrs. HalinaMrs. Halina says angrily. – It is outrageous. We pay into the renovation fund, and that is money which should be used for interventions in matters like this.
Despite the inconvenience, the couple emphasizes that they like the apartment very much. – It is quiet and peaceful. We live well here – says Mrs. Halina. – We only want this defect to be repaired.
– We carried out sealing work in the summer – says Zenon Potocki of the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative. – Perhaps something has come loose again – he adds. As he explains, the cooperative has only a 27-meter boom lift. To properly seal the wall of a 10-story block, “Bolesławianka” will have to seek the help of construction workers who work at heights, so-called rope-access technicians. They, however, are not short of work. – It may take some time. But we will do everything we can – assures Potocki.
