She contacted us, the reader. According to the resident of Bolesławiec, pedestrian crossings are lacking on Kościuszki Street in Bolesławiec. In the woman’s opinion, one would be particularly useful near the allotment gardens.
We asked the Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service whether there was a chance that such a pedestrian crossing might be built one day. Leszek Loch, head of DSDIK:
[...] I hereby inform you that the section of provincial road no. 297 in question is located in a built-up area, on a straight section of road. Along Kościuszki Street, at the level of the allotment gardens and production and industrial facilities, there is a sidewalk on one side of the road (on the eastern side), separated from the carriageway by a strip of greenery. On the other side there is an unpaved shoulder. Pedestrian traffic on this section is relatively light—there are no concentrated pedestrian traffic generators that would make it necessary to cross the carriageway frequently.Along Kościuszki Street, at the first gate to the allotment gardens (from the direction of the city centre), there is a designated pedestrian crossing, which is additionally illuminated. At the allotment gardens on Kościuszki Street, visibility at and beyond the pedestrian crossing for driver–pedestrian and pedestrian–driver interactions is maintained at a very good level due to the road running along a straight section.
According to data from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław (the SEWIK system), no road incident involving pedestrians was recorded in 2017.
The Director of the Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service adds:
Taking the above into account, as well as the fact that crossing the carriageway outside a pedestrian crossing is permitted when the distance from the crossing exceeds 100 m (Article 13(2) of the Act of 20 June 1997, the Road Traffic Law—Journal of Laws of 2017, item 1260, as amended), the application received a negative opinion.
