During the July session of the Bolesławiec City Council, councillor Eugeniusz Jabłoński “on behalf of the city’s residents” asked the mayor to install a cross on the roof of the chapel at the municipal cemetery in Bolesławiec. The councillor argued that 99% of funerals held in this chapel are Christian. What is more, a cross of this kind used to be installed on the building. Piotr Roman replied that the project was not included in this year’s budget and that the councillor should submit it for next year’s budget. But he immediately added that the initiative should be preceded by a discussion.

The discussion was joined by Dariusz Filistyński, head of the Bolesławiec cemetery and leader of the presidential Forum club, who confirmed that people had repeatedly asked him to restore the cross on the chapel. He stressed that the initial cost of such an investment would be approximately PLN 500,000.

D. Filistyński also repeated the mayor’s words that a discussion on the matter must take place first. But, he added, if councillors were to make a decision on the issue, the majority would support it because “we are Roman Catholic.”
