This year marked the 52nd edition of this prestigious music event. Zofia Tarasiewicz won first prize at this year’s festival for performing unique songs from the repertoire of the Czadeckie Highlanders. She learned these songs from her grandfather, Michał Irski, who served as Marshal Józef Piłsudski’s personal orderly in 1918. The family still preserves the Medal of Independence.
“The artist is currently one of Poland’s most distinguished folk singers. During the festival, she made recordings for Polish Radio’s Programme II, Radio Lublin and the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. A fragment of her performance was broadcast live on TVP Programme I,” reports Henryk Dumin of the Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra.
The participation of representatives from Lower Silesia was organised by the Culture and Art Centre in Wrocław with the support of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship government. Henryk Dumin is responsible for the artist’s professional supervision.
On Thursday, 5 July, Zofia Tarasiewicz visited Bolesławiec Town Hall. Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman warmly congratulated the artist on winning first prize and wished her further success in her artistic work. During the meeting, the artist sang three songs that impressed the jury and audience in Kazimierz.
