Detailed procedural activities established that the January disaster in Mirsk was caused by a 67-year-old resident of the town. According to investigators, the man connected the gas cylinder incorrectly and thereby contributed to its explosion.
The 67-year-old was charged with causing a disaster and committing an offence against health and life. In addition, the prosecutor imposed a ban on the suspect leaving Mirsk or contacting a witness.
The man could face up to 10 years in prison.
As a reminder: on January 25, before 1 p.m., a gas cylinder exploded in one of the tenement buildings in Mirsk, causing part of the structure to collapse. Two police officers from a nearby station were the first to arrive at the scene and began evacuation efforts, carrying an injured elderly woman out of the building. (Police officers from Lwówek County who were on duty also went to the scene under an emergency callout).
Ten people, including five children, were injured in the disaster. The residents of the damaged tenement building were taken to various hospitals—fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
It is worth adding that firefighters from various units, including those from Bolesławiec, were called to the scene.
