There are more and more campervan enthusiasts in Poland. Every year, an increasing number of them can be seen on the roads, while the number of new campsites is also growing rapidly. Buying your own motorhome and setting off on a journey in it is a dream come true for many people. To ensure a trouble-free trip, the campervan owner must take care of several important matters before departure. In addition to having fun, safety and protection against unforeseen events are also important.

Vehicle inspection before departure

Regardless of how long a route we are planning, the campervan should undergo a technical inspection. The vehicle owner can check the condition of the tyres themselves—if the tread is worn below the permitted level, the tyres must be replaced. Tyre pressure should also be checked with a compressor, and the vehicle’s electrical system with a voltmeter. In addition, it is essential to check the braking system, the battery’s charge level and the gas installation for leaks.

Insurance for every eventuality

To take a motorhome on the road, we must have compulsory third-party liability insurance. The policy provides protection against many claims for damage to third parties or their property resulting from an accident or collision that we caused ourselves. Owners of new and expensive campervans should consider taking out additional comprehensive insurance, which can minimise financial losses in the event of theft. Assistance insurance, meanwhile, is useful for anyone planning trips abroad—as a result, the costs of repairing or towing the campervan abroad will be significantly lower. It is worth noting that the campervan insurance market is gradually expanding. In the United Kingdom, a policy called campervan insurance is already available, prepared specifically for motorhomes. Under this policy, Lancaster Insurance guarantees coverage of costs associated with the loss of camping equipment or gas cylinders and, if the campervan is less than 12 months old, allows the old vehicle to be replaced with a new one.

Travel safety is not just about being careful on the road. Above all, it means preparing the vehicle before setting off and minimising potential losses.
