The book describes the Saxon-Silesian campaign of 1813, from the Battle of Bautzen and Duroc’s death to the Battle of Kulm. The work presents the events using a wide range of sources, including Prussian, French, Russian, English, Italian and Polish sources. It contains many quotations from previously unpublished memoirs, diaries, correspondence and orders.

Mariusz Olczak, a historian and writer, left Bolesławiec in 1995. He works at the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw. He is a co-author of a series of historical guides to the city and the municipalities of the county.
