On 30 May, officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, together with forest guards from Karkonosze National Park, the “Śnieżka” Forest District in Kowary, the Forest District in Szklarska Poręba, and forest districts in Lwówek Śląski, Jawor and Złotoryja, once again conducted operations in the Jelenia Góra Valley targeting quad-bike and dirt-bike riders who violate applicable regulations by entering forests.
During the operation, officers issued fines to a group of dirt-bike riders for illegally entering the forest. In addition, near Jagniątków, officers arrested, after a pursuit, a German citizen riding a dirt bike through forest land belonging to Karkonosze National Park. The man was detained in police custody. He was fined PLN 6,000 and banned from driving motor vehicles for one year.
Furthermore, his motorcycle, worth PLN 30,000, was seized to cover future penalties.
Police remind the public that failing to stop for a traffic check is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison.
The joint actions of forestry workers and uniformed officers are intended not only to prevent damage to nature, but also to make walkers feel safer and spare them excessive noise. Officers announce that, due to the considerable nuisance caused to residents and violations of applicable regulations, people riding quad bikes or dirt bikes who illegally enter the forest will be brought before a court.
