We received the following report from a Reader:
I am asking you for help and to do something about this matter – it concerns a foul odor, probably from the wastewater-treatment plant. It appears after 10 p.m., regularly. I live on Staszica Street and it makes me not want to live there anymore: it stings my nose, and my eyes water. All the windows have to be closed because it is impossible to endure and function normally...
We asked the head of Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji w Bolesławcu, Józef Król, for comment:
I would like to inform you that recently we have received no reports concerning odors from our wastewater-treatment plant. When a report is received via our emergency number, 994, we immediately take steps to identify the source of the unpleasant smell. Our employees go to the person making the report and conduct interviews – both with that person and with residents living nearby – and they also check the validity of the report themselves, organoleptically.
In the absence of reports, no such visits have been carried out.
The head of PWiK assures that the wastewater-treatment plant operates properly and is not the source of the nuisance. He also emphasizes:
It is worth recalling that the facilities that could not be enclosed have been equipped with deodorizing systems, which are operating. After 10 p.m., no activities other than those carried out during the rest of the day are performed in the plant’s technological cycle.
He adds: – It happens that bad smells come from other sources, including a leaking or improperly ventilated internal sewage system, or drain grates with dry traps, as well as smells from fields and other sources.
Does it stink in Bolesławiec for you too? What do you think is the cause? We invite you to join the discussion.
