On 7 May, a fire alarm exercise was held at the 23rd Artillery Regiment, combined with a practical test of the evacuation arrangements and conditions. The exercise scenario assumed that a fire had broken out in one of the rooms of a barracks building as a result of an electrical short circuit. Despite an attempt to extinguish it with portable fire extinguishing equipment, the fire quickly spread.
After the alarm was announced, the duty service undertook the practical actions specified in fire emergency procedures. During the training, the practical evacuation of people from the burning building to the designated assembly point was demonstrated, along with procedures for cooperation between the duty services, the military and county fire services, and the medical evacuation team.
The second part of the exercise involved training on the principles of operating portable fire extinguishing equipment, combined with practical firefighting. The aim of the exercise was to test the ability of personnel responsible for organizing firefighting and evacuation operations in the unit to respond appropriately, as well as to improve the performance of duty and responsible personnel in carrying out tasks set out in the unit’s fire protection plan.
The exercise was prepared in its entirety by the Fire Protection Inspector of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Senior Warrant Officer of the General Staff Grzegorz Szczęsny, and Captain Krzysztof Oko of the Military Recruitment Office in Bolesławiec. Substantive supervision of the exercise was provided by Major Robert Markos, Specialist of the Wrocław Delegation of the Military Fire Protection Service.
