Artur Szczogryn, a resident of Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, is almost 36 years old. His leg was amputated when he was in the eighth grade of primary school. The reason? Bone cancer.
At first, he broke down. But shortly afterwards, he got on a scooter. Then he switched to a bicycle. And he has been riding that second two-wheeler for several years now. At weekends, he takes long, 90-kilometre rides. Sometimes he speeds downhill at 40 km/h. Soon, he plans to cycle to the area around Jelenia Góra.
At first, he lost his balance while riding, but now he has no problem with it. When surprised people ask him how he rides a bicycle, he replies: “Fast!” “Some people in such a situation break down and stay at home,” he says in an interview with istotne.pl. “I am not one of them. The only barriers are in your head.”
Update
Mr Artur, known to his friends as Sztywny, has a dream: he would like to go wild on a bicycle in the forest. If anyone would like to help a resident of our county buy a performance bicycle, please contact us at: 662 038 497.
