In an email to our editorial office, a Reader writes: “This road has been under renovation since the beginning of 2008.” Traffic intensifies especially on Thursdays and Fridays. Huge traffic jams form on the route beyond Wykroty. “Everyone has to drive slowly to avoid the potholes in the road. Sometimes you have to wait 15–25 minutes just to leave the intersection. Sometimes someone takes pity and lets you in,” he adds.
As he points out, the renovation is “progressing very slowly” because the company pays the road workers for their time rather than for the results of their work. Local residents find it difficult to get to the bus stop, or even to cross to the other side of the street. “It is very, very troublesome,” the Reader complains.
“This renovation is being carried out in stages. Road No. 4 is an international route, and we are obliged to keep traffic moving along this section,” explains Jacek Krupiński of DTP Terrassement, the site manager. He adds that someone observing the progress of the work from the sidelines may get the impression that it has been going on for a very long time. “But we want to do a good job. Drivers and residents must be patient,” Krupiński stresses.
The work has been temporarily suspended because of the severe winter. It may resume in two weeks. The site manager assures that, weather conditions permitting, the company will complete the renovation within a month and a half.
