The Platform’s “convoy of shame” is traveling across the country, but the ruling party is not resting on its laurels. The fakty.interia.pl portal quotes a statement by Law and Justice leader Jarosław Kaczyński from a press conference held on Thursday, April 5, at the PiS headquarters on Nowogrodzka Street:

Some time ago, before the elections, I said that people do not enter politics for the money, and society apparently remembered that. Hence the expectation of modesty in public life. Since we know that we serve society and that the purpose of politics is not to make politicians rich, we have made certain decisions. [...] First, constitutional ministers and secretaries of state who are politicians have decided to donate the awards, by mid-May, to Caritas for social purposes.

At my request, the PiS Political Committee decided that a bill reducing parliamentary salaries by 20 percent would be submitted to the Speaker’s office. We want new limits to be introduced for village heads, mayors, city presidents, marshals, starosts and their deputies; all benefits additional to salaries will be abolished for the management of companies owned by the State Treasury.

What do you think? A good move? Or merely a marketing ploy ahead of the local elections? We invite you to join the discussion.
