Below, we publish Mrs. Mirosława’s appeal:
I am appealing to the BKS Bolesławiec board with a heartfelt request to organize a charity match for my two disabled children, Ania and Krzyś. I am a single mother raising two disabled children. Ania has been ill since birth. She suffers from recurrent urinary tract infections, blindness in her right eye, astigmatism, lactose intolerance and fatty liver. She has a very rare metabolic disease, hypobetalipoproteinemia, which has resulted in metabolic neuropathy in both eyes. It is an irreversible, progressive disease. She is under the care of an ophthalmologist, neurologist, urologist, nephrologist, gastroenterologist, the metabolic disease clinic at the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw, and others. Because of her metabolic disease, she requires a restrictive, expensive, easily digestible diet low in fat and lactose. She is a young girl full of passion who loves painting, literature, history, clothing design and interior design. She loves classical and opera music and playing the violin.
Krzyś is a cheerful 11-year-old with autism and epilepsy. Like his older sister, he suffers from hypobetalipoproteinemia and follows the same restrictive diet. He has also been diagnosed with tachycardia. He is under the care of neurologists, a cardiologist, a psychiatrist and others, and also attends the metabolic disease clinic at the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. Krzyś is a patient at the autism clinic for children in Wrocław, where we travel three times a week for various therapies. My son loves going to school, where he has friends and favorite teachers. He loves making things from modeling clay, building with blocks and playing various board games, guessing games and puzzles. He likes watching videos and is fascinated by space and everything related to it; he also loves nature and insects.
The children require constant, systematic treatment. Krzyś needs rehabilitation, developmental support and assistance with functioning in society. Because of their shared hypobetalipoproteinemia (FHBL), both Ania and Krzyś require regular administration of imported vitamin preparations that are not reimbursed and must be paid for in full (the monthly cost for both is approximately PLN 1,000). They also take medications regularly (costing approximately PLN 300), plus travel expenses to Wrocław for rehabilitation for both children and for Ania’s school, exceeding PLN 300, and the cost of a diet for both children, PLN 800–850. I do not work because of my son’s disability. I receive a care benefit. In addition to the children’s treatment expenses, I also pay for housing and other costs. I have health problems myself. I am undergoing treatment so that I can raise my children and continue their treatment and rehabilitation. Due to our difficult financial situation, the children currently do not take the vitamin preparations prescribed for them because I cannot afford to buy them. Therefore, I ask that my request be considered favorably.
Yours sincerely, Mirosława, mother of two wonderful children.
