Officers from the Traffic Division and the Division for Combating Economic Crime of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 47-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County. In the suspect’s car, they found more than 80,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps. The illegal goods were worth nearly PLN 26,000, while the State Treasury’s losses were initially estimated at almost PLN 70,000.
The officers are currently clarifying the circumstances of the case, including where the illegal cigarettes came from and where they were supposed to go.
The 47-year-old will face trial for his actions.
