Officers from the Economic Crime Unit of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters determined that tobacco products without Polish excise-duty markings were located in one of the rented garages in the City of Ceramics. It was also established that the garage was being used by a 46-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County.
The officers’ findings were confirmed. The 46-year-old was caught when he arrived at the aforementioned garage to load the illegal goods into the trunk.
In total, the officers seized more than 550 packs of cigarettes and over 50 kilograms of illegal tobacco. The losses to the State Treasury were estimated at more than PLN 60,000.
The police are currently investigating where the seized goods came from. The 46-year-old could face up to 3 years in prison, as well as substantial financial penalties.
